Since the last episode of The Last Ride documentary series, The Undertaker has apparently hung up his boots. While the three-decade veteran seems to be done for good this time around, nothing is ever set in stone in the world of professional wrestling. Speaking to Yahoo.com, Taker stressed that he was personally done, but his future in the ring will always remain uncertain.
“I go with it, but I work for a man named Vince McMahon, whose motto is ‘Never say never’,” Taker said. “And I’m going to kind of leave it there. In my eyes, yes, I’m officially retired.”
This year Survivor Series is set to celebrate The Undertaker’s 30th birthday, as The Deadman made his WWE debut at the same event. When Taker’s return to WWE programming was announced, speculation was mad as to whether that meant he was returning to the ring. Taker has stressed that he will be at the show, but his role remains to be seen.
“Well, I’ll definitely be at Survivor Series,” Taker said. “And what I’m doing there, we don’t know. But I’ll be live at Survivor Series. You never know what’s going to happen, and we’ve got a few weeks (laughs).”
With his days in the ring seemingly behind him, Undertaker represents one of the last contenders of the Attitude era. The wrestling landscape has changed dramatically since then, with WWE Champions moving from tall players like Taker, Diesel and Steve Austin to smaller, nimble athletes like AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and Rey Mysterio. Taker says he doesn’t think anyone’s size should stop them from becoming a champion, but he says a champion should look believable.
“He doesn’t have to be a big guy, but we’ve extended the realms of reality at times with some of our champions,” Taker said. “When you see some of the guys that they have to work with, it’s like, OK, I get it, we’re sports entertainment – BUT. My goal when I got in the ring, I don’t care if you ‘I I’m smart, not smart, whatever, when I’m in the ring I want people to think, “This guy is legit. And if I hit someone I want the people in the front row to say,” No, man, he hit it. I don’t care what happened in the game before, he just turned it on. It’s on. ”So it’s hard because we’re starting to have a little influx of big guys, but it’s just kind of where – because there’s so much new talent, you can’t attribute the title to a guy just because he’s tall And back then, man, we had tons of fat guys that could go and wear it and do it.
“So he’s more of a guy who kind of fits in the middle of the road. A guy that you think works with a big guy but can also work with a little guy. But there are some guys who have. had – I won I don’t bring names – but it’s just like, yeah I just don’t buy it. I don’t buy it as a champion. And that’s not from their fault, other than that they are physically unable to match against certain people. “
