The philanthropist Hugh F. Culverhouse Jr. promised to pay the university a record $ 26.5 million in September, of which $ 21.5 million has already been paid to the school by a resident of Florida 70 years old. But in turn, the 15-member school board voted Friday to return the money and change the name of the university's Faculty of Law, which is named Culverhouse.

Culverhouse said the board of directors is making money in retaliation for its comments on the abortion law, which prohibits abortion in all cases except in the cases where the life of the mother is in danger.

"I do not want anyone going to this law school, especially women, until the state organizes," Culverhouse told The Associated Press.

The university disputes the assertion that she returned the money because of Culverhouse's remarks, claiming that the reimbursement was due to Culverhouse's "numerous demands" about the university's operations and the fact that the donors "Could not dictate the administration of the university".

Culverhouse has donated more than $ 30 million to the university over the years.
