WASHINGTON – The US budget gap widened 38 percent in the first seven months of the year, as federal spending outpaced tax revenues.

The government recorded a deficit of 531 billion dollars from October to April, said Friday the Treasury Department, against 385 billion dollars for the same period last year, an increase of 38%. Federal spending rose 8% to nearly $ 2.6 trillion, while revenues rose 2% to $ 2.4 trillion, a record for the seven-month period.
