the Utah Department of Public Safety the helicopter was helping Utah Wildlife Division with a task in the remote Utah desert when those on board noticed a mysterious object in the middle of nowhere.

Crews found a shiny metal monolith planted in the middle of a cove of red rock.

  • “One of the biologists is the one who spotted it and we just flew directly over it,” pilot Bret Hutchings said, according to KSL-TV. “He was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, turn around, turn around! And I said to myself “what”. And he said, ‘There’s that thing over there – we’ve got to go look at it!’
  • “I would say it’s probably between 10 and 12 feet tall,” Hutchings said. “We were kind of joking that if one of us suddenly disappears, then we all rush.”

Hutchings said the item did not appear to have sprouted from there. Rather, it had been planted there, according to KSL-TV.

  • “We thought, like, is that something NASA stuck up there or something like that. Do they bounce satellites or something like that? Hutchings interviewed.

The monolith has made headlines around the world and it’s only just getting started. Websites such as AV Club, HuffPost, ScreenCrush, The Guardian, and the Daily Mail have all written about this mysterious object.

The Bureau of Land Management and the United States Geological Survey have yet to comment on the monolith at any point of sale. Our guess is as good as yours.
