A new scam is underway and it targets users of a popular mobile payment application.
Some 40 million users of Venmo may soon receive a message from the app, but it could just be an attempt to rip you off, warns the police.
Here's how the scam works, according to the Dighton Police Department in Massachusetts.
Venmo users receive an SMS stating that their Venmo account is about to be billed. If they want to cancel the withdrawal, they must log in and decline it.
The message allows users to connect to a website with any combination of phone number and password. It then asks users to verify their identity by entering their credit card number and other personal and financial information.
What makes the scam even more misleading is the fact that redirected web page users look like Venmo, using the same colors and fonts as the app.

Go to the Venmo application or use the website.
Anyone who falls victim to this scam and shares their personal information should immediately contact their bank or credit card lender.
