While Samsung touts its massive 292-inch MicroLED aptly called The Wall since 2017, a new challenger has emerged from the chasm that could give Samsung’s monstrous MicroLED a run for its money.
The new display is called the 165-inch M1 4K TV and it’s made by an Austrian store called C-Seed. What makes it special, aside from its massive screen size, is that it lurks underground when not in use and costs – get ready for it – almost half a million. dollars ($ 400,000 or around £ 300,000 / AU $ 520,000).
When coming out of the ground, the M1 stands approximately seven feet tall and features four panels that fold up seamlessly thanks to C-Seed’s adaptive gap calibration technology that makes the boundaries between the panels of the completely invisible screen.
It’s pretty impressive to be honest, but at this price, it’s probably not something that will fit into our budget anytime soon.
Will MicroLED ever be affordable?
It’s hard to look at the M1 and not feel a tinge of envy – who wouldn’t want a 165-inch 4K HDR TV with HDR10 + support that stows away neatly when not in use?
In addition to its cool appearance, Samsung claims that its version of MicroLED TVs can achieve up to 4000 nits of peak brightness and have black levels that rival OLED displays. Since the panels are most likely from Samsung, we think the M1 is probably capable of doing the same.
While the M1 is out of reach for most of us, unfortunately most other commercially available micro LED TVs are out there today – the most affordable model, the Samsung The Wall in a screen size of 146 inches, is said to cost $ 300,000 and is not available at any retail store.
There is a silver lining on the horizon that Samsung’s smaller MicroLED TVs, such as the 88-inch version of The Wall arriving later this year, will be more affordable. But given that 88-inch versions of other high-end TVs like the LG Signature ZX 8K OLED TV cost around $ 30,000, it might be a while before we see one in our price range.
