Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were allowed to return to the “The View” table after false positive COVID-19 tests forced them out of air on Friday, ABC insiders exclusively at Page Six revealed.
From Sunday afternoon, “[Sunny] definitely comes back to the studio [on Monday]. [Parent company] Disney said they were clear. No quarantine is necessary, ”said an insider.
Another insider told us that they are “95%” sure that Hostin will be in the studio on Monday. Navarro, who is a part-time host, is expected to continue her regular appearances Thursday and Friday later this week.
Hostin and Navarro were rushed off the air on Friday – moments before interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris – after executive producer Brian Teta announced they had tested positive for COVID-19. The ladies were “both very emotional about this for good reason,” sources told Page Six.
“They were pissed off because everyone had been waiting for this big interview for two weeks now and then it went off the rails with a false positive,” an insider said.
To make matters worse, the producers announced their positive on-air test results, allegedly without their permission.
“It wasn’t right. They made the decision to reveal their COVID-19 results in the heat of the moment when they should have taken a commercial break, ”noted a second insider.
“They could have stopped and thought about how to handle this, instead of being mad in the air and running like chickens with their heads cut off,” they added.
The show’s hosts and staff are tested for COVID-19 several times a week. It is not known how the ladies were allowed to go on air without first having their test results.
ABC did not provide an explanation, but several sources described the botched testing protocol as an “epic failure.” One source described it as “a sort of wild ‘House of Cards’, referring to Netflix’s canceled political thriller.
“It was so crazy. No one knew what was going on. Everyone at ABC had a different answer on what was going on, ”the second source said.
Page Six exclusively reported on Friday that Hostin, 52, and Navarro, 49, subsequently had a rapid test and a PCR test. All came back negative, judging their first tests to be false positive.
They had another PCR test on Saturday. Their results were also negative.
Navarro appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360” on Friday while in quarantine in New York City.
“Very grateful to have had a third negative PCR test result this afternoon,” she tweeted on Saturday, before returning home to Miami where she resides.
Hostin has yet to address the issue. ABC representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
