Vivo has announced the X60 Pro Plus, its 2021 flagship smartphone with a set of four cameras co-developed by Zeiss. Called “Vivo Zeiss Joint Imaging System”, the companies promise excellent quality despite the small size of the hardware.
Vivo announced a partnership with Zeiss in December 2020 and the X60 Pro Plus is the first phone to take advantage of this partnership.
The X60 Pro Plus has four cameras in its slightly raised camera bump: a 23mm super-large lens with a 50-megapixel GN1 sensor, a 23mm super-wide-angle micro-head lens in front of a 50-megapixel sensor, a 32 megapixels 50mm “professional portrait” lens and 8 megapixel 125mm super telephoto periscope lens.
The 23mm main camera also includes a larger 1 / 1.3 inch sensor and optics which Vivo and Zeiss say have “high resolution characteristics and can improve scatter, glare, purple fringes. and ghost images ”. Not only is the sensor larger, but it also has a wide open aperture of f / 1.57, which the companies claim, combined with the larger sensor, will provide excellent night-time shooting capabilities.
Additionally, the X60 Pro + uses Zeiss T * coating technology which companies claim significantly increases lens transmittance to reduce glare and dramatically improve overall picture quality.
The Vivo X60 Pro + is the world’s first ultra-wide-angle micro-head main camera. It uses a combination of the 48-megapixel IMX598 sensor and a second-generation micro head. It has an equivalent focal length of 14mm and can achieve 114 degree ultra wide-angle shooting without correction as shown below:
This wide-angle camera also includes a built-in optical image stabilization system which the company claims has four anti-shake axes in photogrpahy and five anti-shake axes in video mode, as well as a ‘super night full scene “camera,” black light night vision 2.0
The Vivo X60 Pro + has four-axis image stabilization in photos and five-axis stabilization for video shooting when using the super wide camera. The 8 megapixel optical periscope lens is also capable of 60 times digital zoom, and along with the 2x digital zoom available on the 32 megapixel 50mm camera are used together in the portrait mode of the camera.
The phone has a host of other notable features like a built-in fingerprint reader, 6.56-inch Full HD OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 8 or 12GB processor RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage and a decent sized 4200mAh battery that can be charged at decent 55W speeds. In addition to the lack of a 1440p display and faster charging, the rest of the Vivo X60 Pro Plus is quite excellent.
Available only in China for now, the Vivo X60 Pro Plus will be available in Classic Orange and Phantom Blue for CNY 5,000 (~ $ 775) for the 8GB RAM and 128GB model. The 12GB storage model of RAM and 256 GB is priced at CNY 6,000 (~ $ 927 USD).
