It is no secret that the goal of The Walking Dead: The World Beyond is to expand the universe where The walking dead takes place. Specifically, the spinoff series explored the CRM group that is tasked with driving Rick Grimes away from Alexandria at the end of Andrew Lincoln’s final episode. Some fans were expecting Rick to appear in the dying moments of the two-season series when he reaches his final destination in its twentieth episode. however, The walking dead Content Director Scott Gimple is ready to set an appropriate expectation for fans – and they shouldn’t expect to see Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead: The World Beyond.
Gimple caught up with ComicBook.com for an exclusive interview, delving into the huge zombie year AMC had with three different shows that were all set in franchise canon. After the World Beyond Season 1 finale, the characters are on a collision course with the CRM, but their trip to New York won’t be accompanied by any meeting with Rick.
“You know what? I’m very happy to say … I’m not happy to say the answer. I’m happy to be definitive with people. It’s not,” Gimple said when asked him if World BeyondThe latter’s final destination was Rick Grimes. “It’s a, I don’t know if people are suspicious of this. But I think it’s important not to be suspicious. I think people could watch this show and learn a lot about the mythology in it. which Rick Grimes is a prisoner. Yet those dedicated fans who are hoping to get some tidbits of what Rick went through and where he flew to are still going to get some insightful information from World Beyond as the series moves forward and has already gone through its first season. “People will learn a lot about the world Rick is entangled in,” Gimple says. “So I think there is a big benefit to that.”
While Rick Grimes doesn’t show up in World Beyond, the spin-off’s showrunner Matt Negrete doesn’t rule out appearances of other familiar faces. “What I said about it is never say never. Obviously I don’t want to spoil anything, but what I will say is that it’s really going to be an expansion of the world,” said Negrete. We’re going to see a lot more of CRM, parts of CRM that you never even alluded to. We will have a glimpse, or probably more than a glimpse, of how they work, of their modus operandi.
