The Weeknd’s halftime Super Bowl show has made an impact on the internet before – but maybe not the kind the singer-songwriter would have hoped for.
The star’s expensive performance included a streak in which he seemed to get lost in a maze of lights and dancers in the stands at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
While the moment was probably part of the show’s shtick, and The Weeknd probably wasn’t lost – he found a way to perform on the football field after all – it wasn’t long before the viewers were inspired to make performance jokes.
“I am looking for my mother at 6 after losing her in the shopping center”, wrote a Twitter user alongside a video of The Weeknd looking frantically around as he sped through the maze.

“When you lost in the club,” said another, sharing the same clip.
Make fun of the slow deployment of the COVID-19 vaccine, another added: “Me trying to find a vaccination site with extra injections about to go to waste.”
“When everyone tweets a version of a meme and you’re trying to figure out what the benchmark is,” joked yet another.

The overall performance left viewers feeling disappointed, especially given the huge expectations raised by sponsor Pepsi’s lack of publicity and The Weeknd’s financial contribution.
“It was terrible. I mean the sound mixing, the choreography, the concept, the masks … ridiculously bad #HalfTimeShow,” another wrote.
“Probably the worst and most boring #HalfTimeShow yet … where’s my #ladygaga or #Shakira?” someone else asked, referring to the last two performers of the Halftime Show.

“Love @theweeknd, but it could have been better. His musical choice was excellent, but overall, for a part time show, IT COULD BE BETTER ”. wrote another.
