"The worst episode in history"? Fans of & # 39; The Voice & # 39; Ask about the new Cross-Battles

[ad_1]

Monday, The voice introduces a new crazy series, the Cross-Battles, in which – for the first time – two competitors from opposite teams clashed for public votes. Presumably, it was an attempt to upset the show after 16 seasons. Host Carson Daly said it was a historic and epic night … but it was an epic failure. The night was historic, okay, but for all the wrong reasons. A discontented viewer even tweeted that it was (Simpsons Comic Book Guy Voice) the worst Voice never, not just because of Adam Levine's last haircut.

OK, it was not this wrong. (We all know that #Bathrobegate was the worst Voice the episode never seen, become true.) And everything that went wrong Monday was not the fault of competitors. But it was painfully obvious that some of Monday's performances were wrong and that many of the performances in general were disturbed by audio problems. How could this happen in Season 16? A sound engineer at ABC is probably being fired.

Fortunately, some remarkable performances – from Presley Tennant, Kayslin Victoria, Domenic Haynes, Oliv Blu, and especially Maelyn Jarmon – have redeemed this dubious episode. The public voting window opened immediately after the broadcast on the East Coast. On Tuesday, the winners of the top 24 places will be revealed – each coach having a save and a volley. Let's hope that Tuesday's episode goes a little smoother than Monday's. In the meantime, here are the Cross-Battles this week (the series will start again with half of the remaining 32 competitors next week):

Kim Cherry (Blake team) against Betsy Ade (Kelly team)

Blake Shelton left after reigning champion Kelly Clarkson, who decided to put his resident rocker in opposition to Blake's rapper. Kim, who had proved that she could legitimately sing during combat rounds, unfortunately regained her sense of novelty with a drunken-karaoke rendition of "Poison" by Bel Biv DeVoe. bad hearing for an Off-Off-Broadway production of this Small shredded pill musical. It was a strident and panting mess. Honestly, these two women should be eliminated. But I guess the winner of this round was Kim, just because she was at least fun on the run.

Husband (Team Adam) against Selkii (Team Blake)

The adorable Mari played "My My My!" By Troye Sivan and, despite the muddy audio, presented a charming performance. It seemed cool and contemporary, from the choice of the song to the style to the free dance movements. Then Selkii sang Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" version and her throat seemed torn. It was little, a total amateur hour. What was happening sure? Selkii had looked awesome last week. I'm not "torn" about this one: Mari was the winner.

Lisa Ramey (Team Legend) vs. Karen Galera (Kelly Team)

Lisa was incoherent (she was rejected when she tried last year and only shot a chair this season), but her interpretation of Susan Tedeschi's bluesy, "It Hurts So Bad," was surprisingly solid. . In a few moments, she really moaned and she was so fierce in all that red Loverboy leather. And at least it was not a disaster. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of Karen's tasteless coverage of Rihanna's "unfaithful." She was nasal and pensive from the start and sounded very nervous, delivering nothing of the fire and drama of the original. His phrasing was far away, too. This was the performance that hurts so badly; Lisa was the obvious winner.

Matthew Johnson (Kelly team) against Domenic Haynes (Adam team)

Matthew's "Who's Loving You" was good at talking, but yes, so conservative and old-school. It felt like something was coming from Kelly American idol in 2002. Domenic's interpretation of the Alex Clare version of Etta James's "Damn Your Eyes" was quite opposite: angry, interesting and even a little angry, with a distinctly sexy tone. Damn hot "! Domenic at win this one; this boring Voice the season really needs him. As his coach Adam Levine has said, he is "one of the most honest, raw, emotional and powerful singers of all time".

Presley Tenant (Team Kelly) vs. Kayslin Victoria (Team Legend)

What a pity that two of the best competitors of the season, the teenage prodigies, had to fight so fast. Cross-battles are bad! First, Presley did justice to RiRi and made up for Karen's poor performance, torn apart by a fearless and ferocious Love on the Brain. Kayslin was then a pop star the size of a pint. The voice as she headed for "Stay" from Zedd and Alessia Cara. Both the girls must stay. If I had to choose, I would go with Kayslin superhumanly confident, but it's a cross battle that must end with a robbery.

Celia Babini (Team Adam) against Oliv Blu (Team Blake)

It was another pair of seemingly fearsome opponents, two bizarre girls once promising. Celia, although she is one of the most fascinating contestants of the season so far, seemed totally out of Christina Perri's "Thousand Years". She had a naked throat and goose bumps, and the song seemed to be a very low key for her. It was like hanging out for a thousand years. The "gravity" of Olivier was however sublime. It was a bit of a departure from his usual jazzy-scatty style, but it was a risk that paid off. It was a class act. "Gravity" definitely did not work against Oliv, and she should win this round.

Dexter Roberts (Blake team) against Andrew Jannakos (Adam team)

I was surprised that Adam, an extremely competitive man, sacrifices his national competitor to the traditional crooner Dexter, who will undoubtedly be a favorite of viewers. (Dexter already has a televised track record, having reached seventh place on American idol Season 13.) Dexter played safely and played until Blake Base, with "Believe" from Brooks & Dunn; it was commonplace, but polite and professional. I would really like to go with Andrew this one; his cover of Russell Dickerson felt a little cooler, his voice a little richer. Even Blake admitted that this match was "difficult". But since Blake Voice history, especially with country singers, there is not much hope to upset Andrew. His only hope is to get a robbery.

Maelyn Jarmon (Team Legend) vs. Rod Stokes (Team Adam)

And there is not much hope for Rod either. His kindness and deepness "How am I supposed to live without you" was strong, and in the face of another opponent, he would probably have made a good shot. But Maelyn's "crazy world" was the master night show. In fact, he was so convincing and exquisite that he made up for all the shortcomings of this fragile episode. It will be a crazy world if Maelyn does not rank in the top 24, but in the top 10.
