The Wreck of the Diving Boat Design has been raised from the bottom of the ocean

The remains of the 75 foot vessel are under water since the Labor Day fire that claimed the lives of 34 people on board. Weather conditions prevented efforts to raise the boat.
The design was raised to the surface on Thursday.

Aerial footage shows that the boat is slowly brought to the surface by a crane near the island of Santa Cruz.

Santa Barbara sheriff Bill Brown said the efforts to save Conception on Thursday had paid off.

US Coast Guard master Mark Barney announced on Thursday that a crane would be used to lift the design to the surface and then onto a barge.

A preliminary report from the NTSB indicates that the Design Diving Boat did not have a crew member on night watch, as required

"If there is still water in the boat, we will drain the water, empty it in. Once empty, we will gently lift the Design on the barge," Barney said. "… we do not want to damage an important piece of evidence."

The ship was moored aboard the transport barge and taken to an undisclosed location where the National Board of Transport and Safety is about to be arrested, the sheriff said.

The authorities were trying to take the ship 75 feet ashore for further investigation.

The boat should be driven to the Naval Base of Ventura County in Port Hueneme. In 2000, the wreck of flight 261 of Alaska Airlines was towed to the naval facility after its crash off the south coast of California.

The journey from the Channel Islands, where Conception had been anchored, to the coast of Ventura County normally lasts an hour and a quarter, Barney said.
