The author of the famous TV series Chernobyl, Sky and HBO, was forced to express himself following the flood of tourists who visited the site. Many took inappropriate selfies during their visit to the site of the nuclear disaster in Ukraine.
Tourism at the scene of the disaster has reportedly increased by 30 to 40 percent since the series aired last month. Naturally, it has sparked a renewed interest in the region. Many went to Chernobyl to organize their own photo sessions for Instagram.
A woman who visited the site of the 1986 explosion, which would likely be responsible for 4,000 deaths due to radiation exposure, published images of herself posing with her exposed underwear. .
On Wednesday, screenwriter Craig Mazin tweeted:
It's wonderful that #ChernobylHBO has inspired a wave of tourism in the exclusion zone. But yes, I saw the pictures go around. If you visit, remember that a terrible tragedy happened there. Travel with respect to all who have suffered and sacrificed.
Anyone visiting the area is not obliged to wear an anti-materials suit, but is warned not to touch anything. They are also scanned for radiation levels.
Chernobyl is not the first place where a natural disaster has become popular among tourists taking selfies. In March, the Auschwitz Museum tweeted to ask visitors to show more respect and to post photos of people swaying on the railway track of the former Nazi concentration camp.
