The Yankees take a draft on Jack Leiter, the son of Al

Jack Leiter could be a second-generation Yankee – in theory, anyway.

The Bronx Ball Club has qualified right-handed Delbarton, son of the former Yankees and Mets Hurler Al Leiter, his twentieth round pick, No. 615 overall standings in the MLB draft on Wednesday.

The fact that the young footballer with a fast ball from the mid-90s is available so late is not a coincidence: he recently informed the teams that he would be attending Vanderbilt instead of going to the professional stage. Several scouts have proposed Leiter as a first-round choice, thanks to an arsenal that also includes a polished curve cursor and a developing cursor.

Bombers Brass may be hoping that Dad's nostalgia for sharp stripes will help him change his mind, or maybe Jack's high school teammate and fellow Vanderbilt, Anthony Volpe, the Yankees' top pick, could tip the scales.
