The Yankees take stock of the state of injury of Didi Gregorius

Even though almost all injured Yankees seem to have experienced some sort of setback, one of the hardest returns is going well.

Didi Gregorius remains in Tampa, undergoing re-education following Tommy John's surgery during the off-season, and Aaron Boone said the nearest stop was "potentially in two weeks to begin a re-education mission."

The shortstop injured his elbow during the ALDS against the Red Sox in October and the team said during the operation that he could return to June. Boone did not rule out before Friday's 6-3 win over the Twins in the Bronx.

"He's going really well," said Boone. "Until now, it was the best scenario for how it was going and where it was in its return."

Managing Director Brian Cashman said the team had not set a specific date for his return.

Bringing Gregorius back would not only strengthen the Yankees' lineup, but would also allow Gleyber Torres to return to second base, even though Torres performed well this season.

Torres was forced to play regularly because his initial plan to do without Gregorius did not work as planned. Troy Tulowitzki suffered a setback with a calf injury while he was playing a rehab match at Tampa Mercredi.
Boone called it a "light strain" that would close Tulowitzki for a week.

DJ LeMahieu sits for a third straight game after committing a foul on his right knee Sunday. Boone said the plan was that LeMahieu starts Saturday.

The outside field of the Yankees may soon be very different. On Friday, Brett Gardner was backed by Cameron Maybin on the right and Mike Tauchman on the left, but Aaron Hicks, back injury, left him out, played another extended spring training match in Tampa on Friday and should begin a rehab stay with Single-A Tampa on Monday.

Boone added that Hicks is "conceivable in a week to 10 days now … hopefully he should be pretty close."

Giancarlo Stanton (biceps and shoulder) was back with the team at the Stadium Friday after staying in Southern California to work on a rehab program after the departure of the Yankees from Anaheim. He could advance his rehabilitation on Monday.

Clint Frazier (ankle) was eligible to be dropped from the injury list on Friday, but will play two re-education matches with Double-A Trenton in Harrisburg this weekend. It should then be activated on Monday.

Aaron Judge (oblique) is still not closed. He has not started his baseball activities yet, although Boone said the ideal field player was improving.

Luis Severino said that he and his team were investigating how he was suffering from a latent strain during his rehabilitation following an inflammation of the rotator cuff suffered during the spring training.

"The situation is improving, but we still want to know how it happened and what caused it because we do not want it to happen again," Severino said.

Severino said he felt an improvement in the area, but he still had nothing to do with baseball.

"Even with us playing well, I want to be there," Severino said. "I should be there to pitch. It's hard to be that long. "
