NEW YORK – The Yankees suffered another blow Sunday, and this one is catastrophic.

Midfielder Aaron Judge has been under "quite a bit of pressure" in his left diagonal, manager Aaron Boone said.

Boone did not want to speculate on how long he expected the judge to be absent, but said he would be reassessed in a few weeks. The judge was placed on the 10-day wounded list.

"Let's just let the next weeks unfold and we hope to have a more accurate schedule," said Boone.

With Judge's prediction, the Yankees are now leading the majors with 13 players in the IL.

The judge was eliminated midway through Saturday's game against the Royals. He was immediately replaced in the sixth inning after choosing the right and grimaced before heading. The star player dominated earlier in the game and went to 2-for-4, raising his average to .288. He went to the 11th Easter Sunday of the American League with a base percentage of .404.

Last season, Judge missed about seven weeks due to a broken right wrist.

"It's undeniable to say that he's one of the greatest players in this sport," Boone said. "A complete player with what he brings defensively, his way of directing the basics, what he's offensive at. You miss that. It's huge."

The Yankees eliminated Brett Gardner, Clint Frazier and Mike Tauchman in the series finale with the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. With Gardner, Luke Voit and Gleyber Torres are the only remaining players in the opening day lineup.

It is hard to understand how much production has been removed from the Yankees' order, but Boone insists that his optimism is not an act.

"I think our club, our organization, more than anyone in the game is able to cope with these adversities," said Boone. "I feel like we have it and we will do it, the wait does not change either, we expect to go out and win games."

The Yankees recalled Thairo Estrada from Triple A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre before Sunday's game.
