Theo Epstein is not blind to his imperfections. He admitted it during this week’s Zoom farewell talk from the Wrigley Field interview room. He is aware of his heritage and listens to media coverage.
“If you look at my background in Boston, then here, for the first six years or so, we’ve been doing some pretty epic things,” Epstein said. “And then the last two years haven’t been that impressive. Maybe what this tells me is that I am excellent and that I really like to build, transform and triumph. Maybe I’m not quite as good and not as maintenance driven, so to speak.
Epstein’s resignation takes effect Friday as Jed Hoyer takes over as president of baseball operations.
