A bit of a weird aspect of iOS 14 is that there are some hidden apps lurking beneath the surface. However, they are impossible to access, unless you know where to look. A representative example is an application called “Code Scanner”. You can access it by activating the Search menu (swipe down from the middle of the home screen) and typing the name of the app. In doing so, you will see the “Code Scanner” icon and you can open the application. Then, as the name suggests, you can use it to scan QR codes.

Hidden app in iOS 14
It should be noted that Code Scanner is not a new application. Apple called it “QR Code Reader” in iOS 13. Also, you had to add it to Control Center to be able to use it. And of course you can also add the new app to Control Center in iOS 14.
So, is there any reason to use this hidden iPhone app? Well, that answer depends. As most people have already understood, the functionality of Code Scanner is already built into the iOS Camera app.
So what’s the benefit of using the Code Scanner app? Well, two main aspects differentiate Code Scanner from the QR scanning functionality built into the Camera app.
Scan a QR code with the iPhone’s camera and a notification will ask you to open the corresponding link or app. However, if you scan a QR code with this app, the link will open immediately. Second, using the camera app will open links in Safari. As a result, it can clutter your tabs over time with things like restaurant menus. Using Code Scanner, on the other hand, opens links through an in-app browser that easily disappears when you’re done.
Overall, it’s a much more streamlined QR code experience.

As powerful as iOS is, it’s still a little peculiar that Apple doesn’t visibly render some of its more user-oriented features. Add the code scanner app to the control center of your iPhone so that you can use it easily anytime.
