This is not a funeral eulogy. This is not a time when anyone should talk about a man as if he was no longer with us, or would remain forever unfit, or would never tell a joke, tell a story, or participate in a Braves game and would go into the office of their current manager to discuss baseball, family or grilling.

"At around 6:20 am, when I'm there drinking coffee with him, there will be a big void," said Braves captain Brian Snitker.

The Braves played a game Wednesday night. But there was a noticeable void on the team. According to John Schuerholz, Bobby Cox, their Hall of Fame administrator, the "heart of the franchise," has been lying in a hospital bed since Tuesday night because of a stroke.

Snitker choked on his close friend and mentor.

"I told him I loved him," he told Cox at the hospital on Wednesday morning.
