Grey’s Anatomy premiered on television in 2005, and even after fifteen years it remains one of the most popular medical dramas to ever air.

The series tells the story of the dedicated medical staff and residents of a fictional Seattle hospital. Over the years, fans have watched many of their favorite characters grow and develop, go through various tragedies and grow their families. These days, Grey’s Anatomy remains a force in television entertainment, and although it has stood up to various controversies, fans are returning with each new season.

Still, there are a few things that would definitely pull the fanbase away – and recently some Reddit fans have opened up about releasing a character that would really make hardcore fans all the rage.

Meredith Gray, played by Ellen Pompeo, has long been the main character of Grey’s Anatomy. The show centers on Meredith’s rise from a resident to an esteemed doctor at Seattle Grace Hospital.

In addition to her professional life, however, viewers delve deeply into Meredith’s personal life – with her many loves detailed throughout the series. However, many other characters have played prominent roles in the series over the years.

Stars like Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, TR Knight, Sandra Oh, and Katherine Heigl all played pivotal roles in Grey’s Anatomy, while a plethora of other character actors took on smaller, but still vital roles.

Many actors have been honored for their work in medical drama, and during his 15 years on the air, Grey’s Anatomy received nearly forty Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

In 2005, when Grey’s Anatomy made her television debut, viewers were introduced to a supporting character who would become a fan favorite. Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr., was the chief of surgery at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, and a mysterious figure. Richard tends to play close to the vest and likes to stay strictly professional at work, even though he suffers from intense emotional issues.

Pickens made a splash in his role as Richard Webber, and although he had a pretty distinguished CV before being cast Grey’s Anatomy, he became closely related to the character of Richard.

Pickens has personally received several awards for his work on the series, including the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Fans would revolt if Webber left Grey’s Anatomy

These days, Richard Webber is still a favorite on Grey’s Anatomy. Still, fans fear the writers might try to dismiss him from the show.

Additionally, there have been rumors circulating in recent years suggesting that James Pickens Jr. is ready to move on. Hidden Remote recently reported that “Richard Webber’s fate on the show is now in question,” suggesting the character may be out for good soon.

Recently, some Reddit fans discussed the possibility of Webber leaving, revealing it’s the one plot twist they won’t stand up for. “Even with the decline in quality, I always said I would stay Grey’s until the end, ”said one fan. “That said, if they killed Webber, I would shut it down for good.”

Another poster echoed those same sentiments, saying, “I will never forgive them if they kill Webber.” For now, it looks like Webber is safe – but in the world of Grey’s Anatomy, nothing is ever certain.
