Last year, the Brewers Association – a professional group representing America's small independent breweries – released its inaugural list of the country's fastest growing breweries. At the top is Lake Time Brewery, a small but mighty seaside resort in Clear Lake, Iowa, which was launched in 2013 but significantly increased its production last year. Rankings are based on percentage growth in production from one year to the next. They do not represent the largest breweries in America (this list is available here and is led by Anheuser-Busch, MillerCoors, Constellation, etc.). Rather, they are small breweries – median output: 1,350 barrels per year, or just one grain of the 202.2 million barrels of beer sold in the United States in 2018 – which has seen a sharp increase in the amount of beer produced. beer made from 2017 to 2018.

Almost all regions of the country are well represented, particularly the Midwest and Northeast, breweries from 27 states in total. In the fine print, the Brewers Association indicates that the data comes only from breweries that reported to the Association's Brewery Production Survey. Breweries containing staff estimates or data from state excise tax returns were therefore excluded. The breweries on the list must also provide validated figures for 2017 – no wishful wish allowed.
