Following a reversal of mask-wearing guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), several U.S. retailers and food chains have announced they are reinstating their mask policies.

On July 27, the CDC updated its recommendations for wearing masks, stating that everyone should wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status, to help maximize protection against the Delta variant.

Here are the stores that updated their own mask policies after the latest CDC guidelines:

  • Home Depot – All employees, regardless of their immunization status, are required to wear masks indoors.
  • Kroger – All employees and customers are strongly encouraged to wear a mask in stores and facilities
  • Lowe’s – All employees, regardless of immunization status, are required to wear masks indoors.
  • McDonald’s – In counties where the risk of transmission is significant or high, all employees and customers, regardless of immunization status, are required to wear masks.
  • Starbucks – All employees, regardless of immunization status, are required to wear face masks indoors. Where required by local law or regulation, Starbucks will require customers to wear face masks indoors.
  • Target – All employees, regardless of their immunization status, are required to wear masks indoors. Target strongly recommends the masks for all clients in counties at substantial or high risk of transmission
  • Walmart – In counties at substantial or high risk of transmission and where state or local mask mandates exist, all employees, regardless of their immunization status, will be required to wear masks inside its facilities, including stores, Sam’s Club locations, and distribution and fulfillment centers.
