Apple’s latest iPhone 13 models eschew the company’s long-standing “thinner is better” mantra in favor of better camera systems and bigger batteries.
While Apple did not focus on the dimensions of the handset during Tuesday’s hardware reveal, specifications posted on the company’s website show a slight increase in girth and weight compared to the iPhone lineup. 12 of last year.

Apple’s iPhone 13 weighs 6.14 oz. (174 g), compared to 5.78 oz for the iPhone 12. (164 g), while the iPhone 13 mini weighs 4.97 oz. (141g) compares to 4.76oz of iPhone 12 mini. (135g).
While not a significant change from last year’s lineup, the weight gain can be noticeable for owners who carry their device in pockets or small bags. More interestingly, Apple is slowly moving away from its desire to offer ever thinner devices, a strategy that has sometimes come at the expense of usability.
In exchange for the weight increase, the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 offer up to 2.5 hours more battery life compared to their predecessors, while the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 mini offer an additional 1.5 hours.
The TrueDepth “notch” is also getting a makeover that reduces its footprint by 20%, according to Apple. Although the notch is much thinner than the units in current iPhones, it is slightly higher. The added height should be unnoticeable unless you compare the iPhone 13 closely with an older device like the iPhone 12.
