things will not get better until you get together / Boing Boing

Following Blizzard / Activision's announcement of massive layoffs following record profits, Liz Shuler of the AFL-CIO issued an open letter on Kotaku for the benefit of workers. 39, the video game industry, notoriously abusive, calling them to unionize a good deal.

My question is: what did you get back? As you move on at the time, your leaders are ringing at the opening of Wall Street. As you create some of the most revolutionary products of our time, they pocket billions. As you fight against exhaustion and put your soul to the game, Bobby Kotick and Andrew Wilson wear the colors of "their" success.

They become rich. They get the fame. They become visionaries and are considered pioneers.

What are you getting?

Scandalous hours and inadequate paychecks. Stressful and toxic working conditions that push you to reach your physical and mental limits. The fear of asking better means risking the job of your dreams.
