Good news if you're planning a trip to Mars: you can now view a daily weather report on the planet, thanks to NASA's Insight LG. The LG uses a set of sensors called Auxiliary Payload Subsystem (APSS) to monitor the temperature, wind, and atmospheric pressure it experiences each day, and then returns that information to Earth, where it is shared on the NASA website.

Hopefully, InSight will collect this data for the next two years so researchers can compare weather changes between seasons and days. Meteorological information is important for researchers because it allows them to generate noise in earthquake data collected inside the planet using the InSight seismometer. The seismometer is sensitive to changes in atmospheric pressure and wind, so researchers must take this into account when analyzing their data.

For the rest of us, keeping up with Martian weather is just fun. "It gives you the impression of visiting an alien place," said Don Banfield, head of InSight's Meteorology team in a statement. "Mars has familiar atmospheric phenomena that are still very different from those of the Earth."

The weather on Mars has been even colder than here on Earth in recent weeks, ranging from 4 to 11 ° F maximum to a minimum between -138 and -140 ° F. It is colder than the temperature the coldest ever recorded on Earth at Vostok Station, Antarctica, on July 21, 1983. The wind also blows on a storm on Mars, reaching a maximum speed of 38 miles at the hour, termed a force wind Gale . For a visual representation of the weather, you can view the 3-day Martian weather forecast from recent data collected by InSight:
