Third potential model of Rivian spied at the headquarters of the EV startup

U.S. The electric car start-up, Rivian, unveiled a van and an SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2018 last November, but the company is known to work on vehicles additional, one of which could well be spotted.

Our latest spy photos were taken in front of Rivian's Plymouth, Michigan headquarters, and show what appears to be a safe bet for a separate vehicle from Rivian's R1T pickup and the associated R1S SUV.

According to one source, the type of design is used to determine the location of the seats and other interior features. It offers the development team a realistic view of visibility and ergonomics, which means that the form you see here may not be representative of the final design. In addition, finer details such as the characteristics of the body surface could also change.

The design shows a vehicle with a curved roof that contrasts with the flat design of the pickup truck and the Rivian SUV. The waist line is also different as it rises to the back instead of staying flat like on the other models.

We may be looking at the rally-raid performance vehicle confirmed by Rivian's president and founder, RJ Scaringe, last December. He described the vehicle as having a high ground clearance and a shorter wheelbase than the R1S, which is consistent with what we see here.

As far as specifications are concerned, we can only speculate on what we know about R1T and R1S. Both vehicles are based on a skateboard platform with battery on the ground and electric motors on each axle.

Rivian promises battery sizes ranging from 105 to 180 kilowatt hours for these vehicles, the latter claiming to offer a range of over 400 km with a single charge. The power, meanwhile, oscillates between 400 and 750 horses, the output is again dependent on the size of the battery.

The company's goal is to begin R1T deliveries in late 2020 and R1S early in the following year, starting at $ 69,000 and $ 72,500, respectively. The production will take place in a factory in Normal, Illinois, which was previously run by Mitsubishi.

Rivian announced Friday that it had received $ 700 million in its last round of financing, with Amazon confirming its role as lead investor. The company has also signed a license agreement for its platform with Pininfarina for an SUV of the new car brand of the Italian company.
