Trump plans to return to the spotlight
Donald Trump to seek to return to political center stage in address to major Conservative meetinga source close to his plans said on Saturday as the Republican plots his post-White House moves.
Trump plans to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Fla. On February 28on the last day of their meeting, the source told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Trump’s tumultuous four years in the White House ended soon after his impeachment on a charge of inciting a murderous Jan.6 attack by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol, where lawmakers met to certify Biden’s victory in the Nov. 3 election.
After spending two months falsely claiming that his electoral loss was the result of widespread fraud, Trump was acquitted in an impeachment trial held in the Senate after leaving office. The 57-43 vote did not reach the two-thirds majority required for a conviction.
Trump has expressed anger at the 17 Republicans in the House of Representatives and Senate who voted to impeach or convict him, and on Tuesday, he directed his rhetorical fire at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the nation’s longest-serving Republican elected.
The loss of the White House to Biden and Senate control – which Democrats won in a pair of upset second-round victories in Georgia last month – left Republicans on edge as they plotted on how to regain control of Congress in 2022.
Trump and McConnell went their separate ways in the weeks following the November election, with Trump annoyed that the Kentucky Republican recognized Biden as the winner in mid-December. They have not spoken since, a former White House official said this week.
Trump called McConnell an “austere, sullen, smileless political hack” this week and warned that if Republican senators stayed with him “they won’t win anymore.”
The rift between Trump and McConnell widened when the latter said after the Senate acquittal of the former president that Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the siege on Capitol Hill.
A number of high-profile Republicans seen as potential candidates for the party’s presidential nomination in 2024 Also expected to speak at CPAC, including Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Kristi Noem, Governor of South Dakota.
Two notable Republicans in the Trump administration not on CPAC’s list of speakers are former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and Former Vice President Mike Pence.
Another source told Reuters that Trump had rejected a request from Haley to meet him recently after criticizing him in a Politico article.
