This a cappella band is terribly good at mimicking Windows sound effects

If you’ve used Windows 10 before, I need you to stop what you’re doing and go listen to this a cappella band’s terribly accurate Windows sound effects covers.

No Windows noise has been spared here. Compilation includes Windows Vista startup theme (remember that?), Cracking Recycle Bin, Windows XP shutdown tones, etc. But the two segments that are incredibly perfect are the “USB In” and “USB Out” noises, which come in for about 10 seconds. If I closed my eyes, you could convince me that they were the real deal. In addition, the error message directly stresses me. It’s haunting.

But don’t take my word for it – watch the video yourself.

The group behind this video is a Korean group called Maytree. They have a number of other cover videos on Instagram, including a great rendition of Ariana Grande’s “Positions”.

I use Windows 10 every day and constantly experience some of these sound effects – they’ve become so common that they don’t register when I hear them. When I saw the title of this video, the cynic in me thought, “Windows 10 sound effects? Really? Of all the things to cover? But videos like this are a fun reminder that these operating systems are hearing experiences too. And even the most basic sound effects present an extremely impressive level of complexity for a group of human voices to reproduce.
