This bot turns Reddit arguments into debates with Ace’s lawyers

Since there is more than one person on the Internet, there have been arguments. Certain debates in the forum have become so scandalous that they have been forever anchored in the collective subconscious of the web. And now they can be turned into Phoenix wright debates.

A new bot created by Micah Price can grab text from Reddit arguments and transplant them directly as part of a Lawyer Ace scene. The application looks pretty straightforward: find a good argument, comment with the correct command (the “! Objectionbot” or “! Objection-bot”), and the system goes to work.

Price’s bot then grabs the two most frequent commentators from the thread and assigns them the roles of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth. Everyone is random, and based on the comment score, the bot will also assign appropriate happy faces or an “OBJECTION!”

Add in some courtroom music and you’ve got a perfect setting to memorize the Reddit drama. The price says Mashable that he did it in just three days using Python, alongside some computer vision and machine learning libraries, and the code is Open source.

If anything, I hope this bot can grow even more. Twitter feeds would be a great implementation, or if they could pick up even older arguments from other non-Reddit forums. Fortunately, another Lawyer Ace fan has already rotated the infamous “how many days in a week” thread in Phoenix wright argument, so we are taken care of in this regard.

The bot does not work on all subredits – Price notes the subredits it supports on the Reddit bot user page– but feel free to use it as fodder for your next Reddit rabbit hole dive.
