Fujifilm has announced the launch of the new 102 megapixel GFX100, a 102-megapixel medium-format mirrorless camera that the company describes as "a breakthrough in digital camera technology and capability." This is the new flagship camera in the GFX range.

At the heart of the camera is a 102MP backlit CMOS sensor, 55mm diagonal, the same size as the GFX 50S and GFX 50R. In comparison, full-frame 35 mm sensors are approximately 43 mm diagonal. 55mm is about 1.7 times the surface.

The 102 megapixel resolution is the highest resolution ever offered in a mirrorless camera. This camera has a native ISO of 100 ISO and a maximum ISO of 12800 (expandable to 102400).

The GFX100 is the first digital camera with a larger sensor than the full frame to offer image stabilization in the body and a hybrid autofocus with built-in phase detection, with a coverage of almost 100%.

Image Stabilization in the 5-axis body (IBIS) provides up to 5.5 levels of stabilization.

The entire shutter system is suspended by four springs inside the camera to reduce shocks caused by the shutter.

"This greatly expands the field of situations where a user can hold the camera by hand while enjoying the world of ultra-high resolution 100 MPa resolution, thereby pushing the boundaries of photographic expression," says Fujifilm.

The Hybrid Phase Detection AF system superimposes other medium-format digital cameras using 3.76 million pixel phase detection over most of the sensor, allowing photographers to focus on subjects located anywhere in the frame.

"[N]Perfect autofocus performance with speed and accuracy is now a reality for photographers looking for optimal performance in subject tracking, face / eye detection and low-contrast environments, "says Fujifilm, noting that the autofocus is 210% faster than that of the GF The AF system with conventional contrast 50R when using fast-start lenses.

In terms of construction, the GFX100 is quite robust: with its 95-point weatherproof seal, the camera is resistant to dust and weather. The magnesium alloy body is both lightweight and durable. The camera is the first in the GFX family to feature a built-in vertical grip.

"Designed for protection, the GFX100's main imaging unit, consisting of the lens mount, image stabilization mechanism, and image sensor, has been completely separated from the case panels. lead, "says Fujifilm. "This" double structure "is designed to ensure a high level of accuracy and robustness while minimizing the degradation of the resolution caused by the body's external stress."

The upper part of the camera presents a large screen of information:

On the back of the camera, a tilting LCD touch screen tilting 2.36 million points.

Tilt capabilities in three directions allow the screen to work well in both directions.

The EVF is interchangeable and its removal gives the camera a smaller form factor.

A swivel and tilt accessory for the electronic viewfinder can give you more flexibility when shooting.

Despite its large sensor, the GFX100 has a housing comparable to 35mm full-frame digital SLRs on the market. It measures only 6.15 × 6.44 × 4.05 inches (15.6 × 16.36 × 10.29 cm) and 1.93 inches (4.9 cm) in its thinnest part. And it weighs only 1.36 kg with two batteries, a memory card and an electronic viewfinder. For comparison, the Canon 1D X Mark II measures 15.8 × 16.8 × 8.26 cm (6.2 × 6.6 × 3.3 inches) and weighs 1.53 kg (3.37 pounds) .

On the video side, the GFX100 is the first mirrorless camera with a sensor of this size to offer a 4K / 30p video recording. It can also record in F-Log Rec 2020 and capture uncompressed 10: 4: 2: 2 footage via the HDMI port.

Other features and features of the GFX100 include two SDXC card slots, a USB-C port, microphone and headphone jacks, 2.5mm remote unlock connector, 16 film simulation modes, X-Processor engine 4 of Fujifilm, 16-bit RAW photos, Fujifilm Fuji photos, new "Smooth Skin Effect" feature, Wi-Fi / Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and Capture One support.
