Sometimes the hockey gods aren’t on your side and on Sunday in Pittsburgh the Penguins had just enough rebounds to claim a 4-3 shootout victory. It marked Pittsburgh’s first victory and Washington’s first loss of the season.

Alex ovechkin, who scored his first goal of the season in the first period, was inches away from scoring a second halfway through the third period.

During the Capitals’ last power play, John Carlson found the Russian machine alone in his office. Ovi Spot’s Ovi shot beat Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith, but rang from the left post, sounded to the right, and ricocheted into the slot, producing an insane sound that made your toes curl into the process. Ovechkin briefly raised his hands in celebration before realizing THAT DIDN’T GO.

NBC called it a “double doink”.

Ovechkin later had a chance to lengthen the shootout in the fourth round, but couldn’t bury his five-hole shot in the back of the net.

Ovechkin has four points (1g, 3a) and 11 shots in three games.
