This is our first overview of the OnePlus 5G smartphone

At Mobile World Congress 2019, it seems that every company publishes a foldable phone or a 5G phone (or both). OnePlus is not to be neglected, because the company comes (somehow) to unveil the smartphone OnePlus 5G for the first time.

OnePlus and Qualcomm – the developer of the device's 5G modem and the Snapdragon 855 chipset – introduced the smartphone in a concealed case to hide its design from the public. In other words, you can see part of your device's display, but the smart features of the OnePlus 5G smartphone are hidden.

To show the power of the phone and 5G, OnePlus and Qualcomm allowed MWC participants to use an Xbox controller to play games on the smartphone display. However, the games are not installed on the device. They broadcast continuously on 5G to take advantage of the low latencies offered by the technology. As such, the user inputs on the controller caused an action in the game on the smartphone display almost as long as if it was connected with a wire.

OnePlus also presented another screen displaying the messages left on the OnePlus 5G micro-site, which we discussed earlier.

Previously, OnePlus had hinted that the OnePlus 5G smartphone would have a design very similar to that of the OnePlus 6T. However, according to the prototype we see here, it seems that the devices could be very different. The most notable thing missing in this prototype is the drop-shaped notch – although it is possible that the final equipment has the notch, but this prototype does not have it.

OnePlus has not yet announced any price or release date for its device, but has hinted that this would be its most expensive bid to date – probably over $ 700 – and that it will be released before May 2019.
