Directed by Rogen and his longtime creative partner Evan Goldberg, the 2013 comedy – in which Watson appeared as herself – was about six Los Angeles celebrities who got stuck in James Franco’s house after the apocalypse.

In his interview with Britain’s GQ, Rogen confirmed that a long-standing incident involving Watson had indeed taken place. What he pointed out on Wednesday, however, was that key aspects of the rumor were not true.
The established narrative is that Watson left the set, having refused to get involved a bit with a cannibal (played by Danny McBride) and a leashed gimp in a leather mask (played by Channing Tatum). However, “the scene was not what was originally scripted, it improvised, drastically changed and was not what she had accepted. The story that she wasn’t cool or unprofessional in some way is pure bullshit, ”Rogen clarified. “I definitely should have communicated better and because I didn’t she was put in an awkward position.
In tonight’s note, Rogen noted that he had spoken with Watson on set the night of the incident and that the two men were okay with her leaving the scene. “Overall it was a shitty situation and it must have been difficult for her to say something and I’m very happy and impressed that she did,” he said. “I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with her and would love to have this opportunity again. I am very sorry and disappointed that this has happened, and I wish I had done more to prevent it.

In the history of British GQ, Rogen was not quoted on what happened on the set. Instead, the focus was on how he felt about the incident, in retrospect. “I mean, I don’t look back and think, ‘How dare she do that?’ You know? I think sometimes when you read something, when it comes to life, it doesn’t seem like what you thought it was, ”he said. “But it wasn’t a terrible end to our relationship. She came back the next day to say goodbye. She helped promote the film. No hard feelings and I couldn’t be happier with how the movie ultimately turned out.
Additionally, Rogen had talked about how the scene ended up working better, after considering Watson’s objections.
“She was probably right,” he told British GQ. “It was probably funnier the way we ended up doing it.”
