This Is Us producers blame ‘Zoom edition’ for pregnancy test error

This Is Us fans recently took to Twitter to report what appeared to be an editing error in a November episode.

The scene showed teenage Kate Pearson (played by Hannah Zeile) taking a pregnancy test which turned positive. But eagle-eyed fans noticed she was holding a box that clearly read “ ovulation test. ”

Now, the producers have responded to puzzled fans, explaining that this was indeed an editing error, mostly due to challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and being forced to edit via Zoom.

Oops! This Is Us fans recently took to Twitter to report what appeared to be an editing error in a November episode featuring a younger version of Kate Pearson reading a pregnancy test.

One use tweeted after the scene aired: “ Not to be THAT guy, but Kate’s pregnancy test on This Is Us was in an ovulation test box and these are VERY different products ”

Ovulation tests are used to help women get pregnant and indicate when a woman is ovulating and is most likely to conceive.

Another fan tweeted directly to Sterling K. Brown, who plays Kate’s brother Randall on the show.

The scene occurred in the last episode before the NBC drama’s winter break.

And it’s no surprise that viewers wanted clarity as they wondered what young Kate was going to do with the pregnancy and how that would impact her future.

In season five, adult Kate (played by Chrissy Metz) was trying to bond with the pregnant mother of a baby she is hoping to adopt.

“It will be good to put him to bed because our fans are so awesome and are picking up every little clue,” executive producer Isaac Aptaker said. “ As soon as we saw people misinterpreting, of course, it drove us crazy. So let the record officially show: it was [meant to be] a pregnancy test box.

Executive producer Elizabeth Berger told EW that the error “ may [be chalked] up to the Zoom edition, explaining, “Usually we’re all in a bay together looking at these giant monitors.

‘Despite the dozens of people who watched this scene countless times before it aired, we were all so fried with all the COVID [filming conditions] that we missed that one, ”he added.

Executive producer Elizabeth Berger told EW the error “ may [be chalked] until the Zoom edition. ‘

“Usually we’re all in a bay together looking at these giant monitors. And this is the one where we were like, “Ah, if we were just here, someone would have seen it!” She continued. “But everyone is working so hard around the clock under these crazy circumstances.

“And every once in a while you’re going to have an ovulation test when you want to have a pregnancy test box,” Berger said.
