The Pearson saga perseveres in a large way: NBC renewed This is us for seasons 4, 5 and 6, the network announced Sunday.
The removal of the popular family drama was not a surprise, but its magnitude was. Each upcoming season will have 18 episodes; no decision has been made as to whether season 6 will be the last in the series.
The oversized renewal was noted on the TVLine Renewal Dashboard. (The NBC Fall calendar, just released, is here.)
In season 3, This is us on average a little over 2.0 and 8.3 million viewers, or 35 and 25% of the second year but discouraging but still leading all the NBC dramas in the demo and only lagging behind Chicago Med in total audience.
Season 4, which is the first of three newly commissioned slices, is likely to tackle Randall and Beth's relocation to Philadelphia ("I'm delighted to write them in season 4 so that they can are even healthier and more equal as a producer, "said executive producer Isaac Aptaker at TVLine after the last game of season 3). This will also provide more insight into the flash-forward that seems to show Jack's brother, Nicky, sitting on Rebecca's death bed (the end of Nicky's withdrawal from the family "could change a lot in Season 4", star Justin Hartley recently said.)
