This McLaren Speedtail paint job took 12 weeks to complete

Now that we’ve finished the presentations, it’s time to appreciate the sheer craftsmanship that Albert’s builders demonstrated in assembling the final product.

McLaren says one of the most time-consuming processes in the entire build was painting the car, which took 12 weeks to complete from start to finish. The Speedtail’s carbon fiber body wouldn’t be affected until the team completed rigorous painting experiments on sacrificial test panels.

The first two weeks were spent masking the car, which had to be finished with the wheels fitted to ensure the design flowed properly around the vehicle. Two technicians performed this process and used large-scale printed renderings to ensure the masking met expectations. Over a mile of tape was used along the way.

Then the car was taken apart and the painting started. The front of the Speedtail was finished in Ueno Gray and mixed with Magnesium Silver at the rear. This process took about six weeks. The remaining time was spent drying and reassembling.
