Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event took place just earlier today at 10 a.m.ET, and while endless leaks are sapping the anticipation a bit, there’s still reason to be excited. We got our first official look at the new Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, with many improvements over last year’s models. There were concerns that OnePlus would try to outdo Samsung with its own Galaxy-themed teaser, but it turned out that wasn’t a problem, the company is back to stupid and horrible marketing, and you can start over again. ignore them.

Less than 24 hours before Galaxy Unpacked was ready to air, OnePlus announced a teaser, implying it could unveil some sort of foldable phone at 10 a.m.ET – the exact time of Samsung’s event. The teaser features a new device plunged into darkness, with a galaxy – do you understand? – spread over two screens. Beyond a link to his Instagram account, there isn’t much to do in this tweet. The camera pictured appeared to have a wide hinge separating the two panels, which could have been a hint of a Surface Duo-style design, an optional accessory for the OnePlus 9 series, similar to LG’s G8X of 2019, or even just a double-joke of the phone case.
Half. Literally.

But no. OnePlus just tweeted an extremely misleading teaser for a terrible carrier ad promotion that you can directly ignore. And if this is a throwback to the terrible old days of corporate marketing efforts, then we can both go back to ignoring those half-baked marketing crises.
We reached out to OnePlus to ask how the company could perhaps think it wasn’t a good idea (if not downright misleading), and we’ll let you know what we hear, if any.
OnePlus’ horrific marketing is back
The OnePlus teaser turned out to be extremely misleading. It’s a half-price sale – and not even a good one.
The two screens showing seemingly new material were just a ridiculous, utterly silly, stupid way to promote a 50% carrier discount deal when you add a line on T-Mobile.
Who the fuck cares, OnePlus.
