This winter road trip on the Ford Mustang Mach-E did not go as planned

Editor-in-chief of the YouTube channel Presentation of Pickup Truck Plus SUV, Jill Ciminillo, got its hands on the all-new Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. She enjoyed the opportunity to go on a winter road trip around Chicago and Wisconsin.

During the long drive, Jill discusses the Mustang Mach-E as a whole, mainly focusing on its lineup and performance, as well as a bit of snow testing. She also shares the positives and negatives of the trip. She says if you live in the northern states and are considering buying an electric car, this is a video you shouldn’t miss. Right off the bat, Jill notes that the Mach-E only shows around 180 miles of range on a full charge. It resets the crossover computer because the range estimate is partly based on the driving habits of the previous driver. After its reset, it shows 223 miles, which is still below its estimated range of 250 miles by the EPA, but this is due to the cold Chicago weather.

As expected, cold weather limits the Mach-E’s range, but not significantly. Instead, it’s highway driving and the constant speed that is the main culprit. Jill still feels pretty good in the Mustang lineup. In fact, her husband – who says he would never drive a vehicle that isn’t manual and isn’t interested in an electric car – would agree with the Mach-E. Even in winter, he would have no range anxiety driving 70 or 80 miles one way for his job.

The real problem Jill is having is with the load. She takes the time to take the Mach-E to a public charging station and only adds about 1% in 45 minutes. She realizes that she actually used more power to get to the station, but doesn’t have a level 2 charger at home.

Jill reminds people considering an electric vehicle that having a Level 2 home charging system is essential. Plugging it into its standard wall outlet would take 96 hours to fully charge the Mach-E. With a level 2 system, this time drops to approximately 11 to 14 hours. Of course, this is something a lot of our readers are aware of, but you have to remember that there are new readers every day and a lot of people watching these videos have no idea about EVs. We are happy that Jill is clear on the charge situation.
