Senator Thom Tillis, RN.C., revealed Monday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will undergo surgery in North Carolina next week.
“I am in the hands of exceptional medical professionals and I look forward to a good recovery,” Tillis said in a statement.

“I am blessed that my cancer was detected early enough, and I cannot stress enough the importance of routine screenings, regardless of your condition. I had no symptoms and never imagined having cancer, ”he continued. .

Tillis said his prognosis was good as he went to his annual physical exam and received a PSA test, which led to early detection.

According to Cancer.org, about 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Tillis, 60, has served in the Senate since 2015. He fought a fierce re-election battle against Democrat Cal Cunningham in the 2020 election.
