Thompson High School in Alabama came away with one of the most incredible wins in the Alabama Class 7A state title game against Auburn High School. Led by nine points with just over a minute to go, Thompson did the impossible.
Auburn forced Thompson to flip the ball over downs, and they managed to cut the clock to 30 seconds before tossing the ball on the fourth down. However, Thompson’s Korbyn Williams blocked the punt, retrieved the soccer ball and returned it for a touchdown.

Auburn still had a two-point lead after the touchdown. All they had to do was grab the kick in play, then get in formation to win the state championship. But Thompson recovered the kick over the 46-yard line with just 18 seconds left in the game.

Thompson managed to force two defensive pass interference penalties, which moved the ball to the 18-yard line. For Thompson, that would be a 35-yard field goal for kicker Trevor Hardy, who landed the kick and gave Thompson a 29-28 victory over Auburn.
Thompson scored 10 points in 18 seconds for the unlikely victory.

Hardy was honored as the game’s MVP for his brilliant in-game kick, then followed it up by tapping into the game-winning basket to give Thompson the miracle victory.
“I’m practically speechless,” Thompson head coach Mark Freeman said after the game. “The way it turned out at the end, the way it turned out, is amazing.”
