RED BATON – Thousands of people lost power in the capital region on Saturday as the region was lightly beaten by Barry.

Wind blew trees on power lines and poles, causing breakdowns in I-10 parishes.

Entergy said at one point that more than 14,000 people had been affected by blackouts in East Baton Rouge. On Saturday evening, nearly 12,000 people still did not have electricity. Fewer than 2,000 were without power in Ascension. Thousands of other people – nearly 6,000 – were in the dark at the Assumption Parish. About 2,000 other people were without electricity in the parish of Iberville.

Demco had a lot less trouble at the end of Saturday night – just over 500 across the network.

Most of Saturday, Morgan City was without electricity and by the end of Saturday, there was still 92% of St. Mary's parish. Baton Rouge generators have been trucked to sewer stations, officials said.

Entergy did not specify when the power would be restored.

"… crews will react to assess damage as soon as it is safe," the site told customers.
