Three days after Category 4 Hurricane Ida cut power throughout New Orleans and much of southeastern Louisiana, the lights began to come on again in the French Quarter.

Residents began reporting on social media on Wednesday evening that they had power again.

About 11,500 customers were the first to pick up power on Wednesday morning. More than a million people were still without power at midday on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning, homes in East New Orleans’ Little Woods were supplied with power, as was the downtown New Orleans Veterans Hospital and New Orleans Fire Department.

Entergy New Orleans has around 200,000 business and residential customers, all of whom have been without power since Sunday night when catastrophic winds and Ida’s pouring rain swept through the city. In addition, approximately 800,000 customers of Entergy Louisiana in other suburban parishes were deprived of power by the storm, causing the utility to lose the eight main transmission lines that supply the metropolitan area with electricity.
