Authorities partially surrounded a forest fire in northern California, which burned three houses and ordered the evacuation of thousands of people.

Fire officials said the mountain fire was 50 percent under control on Friday night.

It erupted Thursday in rural Shasta County, near Redding. More than 1,100 homes and other structures were threatened and evacuations were ordered for nearly 4,000 people, burning fire from grass, brush and oaks.

However, fire service officials said the 600-acre fire had not risen since Thursday.

Evacuations and road closures have been lifted in some areas and it is unclear how many people are affected.

The fire is burning not far from last year 's Carr Fire, which destroyed more than 1,000 homes in Shasta and Trinity Counties and killed eight people, including three firefighters.

A forest fire in northern California has destroyed three homes, but firefighters report progress in preventing the growth of the fire.

According to Cal Fire, ongoing assessments show that four outbuildings were also destroyed and that an unspecified building was damaged by the 600-acre (243-hectare) fire in a rural area north of Redding.

The confinement is 40% Friday morning.

The mountain fire broke out on Thursday and quickly spread through the wind. The Shasta County Sheriff's Office said more than 1,100 homes and other structures had been threatened and evacuations ordered to nearly 3,900 people.

Firefighters have further reduced the forest fire in northern California, which has threatened thousands of homes and forced evacuations.

According to Cal Fire, the fire in a rural area northwest of the town of Redding remains at 243 hectares (Friday), but the containment has doubled overnight, reaching 40%.

The fire broke out Thursday and quickly spread under the effects of wind crossing the grass, brush and trees of the region located about 322 km north of San Francisco.

A structure was reported destroyed.
