Police and firefighters / paramedics from Schaumburg were sent to the Woodfield Mall today at 2:21 pm, following multiple calls to 911 who reported the presence of a vehicle in the shopping center. The suspect's car, a SUV-type black vehicle, crossed the entrance to the mall near a north entrance, near Sears. The vehicle passed through the common area of the mall to reach a final stop in the central courtyard of the mall.

The only occupant of the vehicle was identified as a 22-year-old man who was stopped by mall customers pending the arrival of the police. The subject was arrested by the police without further incident. He was treated on the spot and refused transportation for medical reasons.

There is no evidence of gunfire or an active shooting situation at the Woodfield Mall. Police and firefighters remain on the scene and the investigation is underway. At this point, it seems like an isolated incident.

A total of three patients were transported to the hospital by firefighters / paramedics for life-threatening medical conditions. The injuries do not result from the fact that the vehicle hit someone. Firefighters / paramedics and paramedic firefighters / paramedics in the assistance agencies who attended Schaumburg treated four other patients on site, all of whom refused transportation to the hospital.

No police officers, firemen or security guards from Woodfield were injured during this incident.

The Woodfield Mall is closed for the moment, as the police continue to investigate and ensure its safe reopening. It is advisable to the public to avoid the area if possible. Notification will be provided at the reopening of the Woodfield Mall.
Anyone who is unable to reach an employee of the Woodfield Mall or a family member can call the Schaumburg Community Service Center at (311) if you are within the village limits or at the 847 -895-4500 if you are outside the village.
