Three valets were struck by a vehicle fleeing from police in Houston, Texas, according to local law enforcement.
Houston Deputy Police Chief Yasar Bashir told a press conference on Friday that the three valets were pronounced dead at the scene after a car attempting to escape police struck them.
A night police sergeant turned on his lights on Friday night to stop a vehicle after seeing the driver making donuts in a private parking lot.
Bashir said the car sped up after the officer turned on his lights in an attempt to get away.
The car struck the three valets before ending up in a ditch.
Police said the car appeared to be traveling at around 100 km / h when it crashed, but the impact to the driver and passenger did not appear to be life threatening – they were taken to hospital for minor injuries.
“We’re here because someone decided they didn’t want to get a ticket or potentially go to jail for a misdemeanor,” said Harris County District Attorney’s Vehicle Crimes Division chief Sean. Teare.
The driver could be charged with three counts of murder and investigators are looking to determine if he was impaired at the time of the incident.
