Thursday Bullet Points: Oregon preview, Ohio State’s big game offense, limited offensive plays and CJ Stroud’s first start

After a season-opener win over Minnesota that saw new faces all over the field, Ohio State now plays host to Oregon’s No.12 on Saturday in its most high-profile non-conference game of the season.

With the game only two days away, Day took his last weekly media availability Thursday afternoon, joining his weekly radio show on 97.1 The Fan and briefly meeting with the media to offer some final updates.

Day was also joined by offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson for the last part of his radio show.

“It was a fun game on offense. We really only had 48 dimmable games.”
Day notes that the defensive score and quick hits limited the number of snaps.
“I wish we had more games in this game.”

“It was weird.”

Day notes that the quarterbacks played by Minnesota made for some big plays.
“This was the plan that was launched.”

“We knew it would be that type of game.”

“We wanted to make sure we had matched the staff. ”
Day notes that they had different packages and training and that also required the Buckeyes to play a lot of different packages.
“At one point I think they had seven offensive linemen.

On the performance of CJ Stroud

“Seeing how he came out in the second half and played was very encouraging.”
Day notes that he has had a lot of firsts.
“I wish there were more pictures to grow up on.”
“As a quarterback, it only takes a game or two to ruin your day.”

“Again, I wish they had more litters, but overall they ran hard.”
Day likes to have several options in the backfield.

On Miyan Williams running the wrong way

“You are like ‘no no no no, yes yes yes yes.'”
“It was just funky enough, I think it caught them a bit off guard.”

Day says the team should play with emotion but not let emotion play with you.
Ryan Day has said Palaie Gaoteote’s waiver has been denied by the NCAA and he will not be eligible to play this season. He’s still on the Ohio State roster and will continue to be.
Day says the Buckeyes have faced a few different guys at center before this week, but says Luke Wypler has had a good week of training. Day said Wypler was “ready to go”.
“We’re going to keep spinning guys,” Day said of the Ohio State high school. Day says he thinks the defense will be on the pitch for 70-80 games.
About TreVeyon Henderson: “He has to keep building on it and growing. Day says he wishes Henderson could have gotten more shots last week.
Day says JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer will both have the opportunity to play “important roles” as true freshmen on Buckeye’s defensive line.
Day says taking care of the football and improving after-take running ability were important points for Chris Olave’s return to the season.
