Comedian Tiffany Haddish and Oscar nominee LaKeith Stanfield are in negotiations to star in Haunted house, Disney’s family adventure festival based on one of the company’s iconic rides.
Justin Simien, who previously led Dear Whites and Bad hair, made his big-budget studio debut directing the feature film project from a script by Katie Dippold. Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce. Nick Reynolds of Rideback is executive producer.
The story will follow a family who move into the titular mansion. Stanfield would play a widower who once believed in the supernatural but is now a rather lifeless tour guide in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Haddish would play a hired medium to commune with the dead.
The project, which is set to shoot in Louisiana this fall, is the studio’s latest to be adapted from one of its theme park attractions – Jungle cruise opens Friday – and is unrelated to the 2003 film starring Eddie Murphy.
Haddish last starred in the hit Netflix comedy Bad trip and production wrapped up on comedy Easter Sunday, the latter produced by Rideback. She then appears in Nicolas Cage’s meta-film The unbearable weight of massive talents, which Lionsgate is slated for release in 2022.
Stanfield, one of the stars of FX Atlanta, dominated by Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah, the drama that won two Academy Awards and earned Stanfield a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He then plays in the elegant western The more they fall, which will be released on Netflix this fall.
Haddish is replaced by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham. Stanfield is replaced by CAA and Stark Management.
