AUGUSTA, GA – Tiger Woods waited 19 months to defend his Masters title. On Thursday, he had to wait three more hours due to a weather delay that hit shortly after play started in the first round at Augusta National.
Tiger Woods’ defense to his Masters title will begin at 10:55 a.m., exactly 3 hours after his original start time.
With a few people around him instead of the thousands who usually pack this place and watch and roar his every move, Woods looked a lot like the guy he was in April 2019 and not at all the one he had been since returning from the golf of his COVID -19 hiatus.
Woods, who has not finished higher than the T-37 in the six events he has played since the sport returned from the break, opened with a 68. It was the first time since the Championship. the 2009 PGA that Woods became without a Bogey. a major, a stretch of 105 turns. It is the first time that he is without a bogey to open the Masters.
“There was really nothing, looking back, that I could have done better,” said Woods.

Tiger Woods flirts with trouble on the 13th par-5, but his second shot sneaks into the tributary of Rae’s Creek that is in front of the green. Two putts later, he leaves with his first birdie of the Masters 2020.

He probably had to work harder than he would have liked, but Tiger Woods rolled into a birdie in the 15th par-5. His turn is still young, but that’s exactly how he would have done it before his day began. Start early, take advantage of par 5s, avoid stupid mistakes.

The last time Tiger Woods played the 16th hole competitively, in last year’s final round with Michael Phelps in the gallery right behind him, he nearly got an ace. On Thursday he almost hit him again. He has less than a foot for another birdie to go 3 cents on his turn.

Tiger Woods narrowly missed a third straight birdie when his 17 putt came two revolutions after falling into the hole. He mumbled to himself as he went to touch the par, knowing it was good luck for another.

Tiger Woods came out with a plan in that opening lap and executed it perfectly in his first nine. Six pars and three birdies to open with 3-under 33. And he’s even smiling, so, yeah, he’s happy with the way it’s been going so far.

It only took 10 holes for the Masters’ first Tiger Woods hand pump. He rolled in a 25-foot birdie on the 1st hole, his 10th of the day, to drop to 4 cents on the lap. And this is the first time today that you imagine what this place was like with customers after this one entered.

It wasn’t a scarecrow, but it will look like it. After a 350 yard drive on the second par 5 hole, Tiger Woods failed to birdie after a loose second shot. Again, that’s okay, but after that tee ball you think birdie – or better.

Tiger Woods with a 7 iron on the fourth hole. He doesn’t birdie the 15 footer, but he still seems to be in control of his swing and game. And while the last two putts haven’t come down, he seems a lot more comfortable with this club than he has since golfing back in June.

For the first time since Augusta National extended the fifth hole, Tiger Woods made a par in the Masters. He went 0-for-4 last year in his win, bogeying every day.

Another great iron shot from Tiger Woods at the sixth par 3 hole. Unable to convert the putt, but he must be satisfied with a steady 15-foot birdie diet.

One of the few misfires of the day for Tiger Woods, whose approach turns 60 feet from the hole in the seventh. But, again, his speed was perfect on the offset putt and gets away with another par.

Angry Tiger first appeared. After a good drive and a solid layup on the eighth par 5 hole, he hits a terrible corner in the green and resists the urge to throw a club. Instead of a good birdie look, he has to settle for a par two 40-foot putt. It’s two pars on the first nine par 5s that won’t suit him.

Tiger Woods closed with a par to shoot 68 to start his masters title defense. It’s the first time he’s gone without a bogey in a major since the start of the 2009 PGA Championship, a 105-innings streak.
