LOS ANGELES – Tiger Woods was transferred to another hospital on Thursday to continue his care and recovery after a rollover accident that left the golf star with serious leg injuries.
Woods, 45, was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center “for continued orthopedic care and recovery,” Dr. Anish Mahajan, acting CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, said in a statement. tweeted statement.
Woods underwent emergency surgery at Harbor-UCLA shortly after the one-car crash Tuesday morning in southwest Los Angeles County. Doctors inserted a rod into her right leg, and pins and screws were used to stabilize her ankle and foot injuries.
Firefighters used an ax and crowbar to pull Woods away from the vehicle, where he was being held because the steering wheel had been pressed into his lap.
“He was basically pinned down,” said Los Angeles County Fire Department Captain Jeane Barrett. He was able to get his legs out from under the steering wheel, “but he was still entangled, he couldn’t get out on his own,” she said.
Representatives for Woods thanked first responders on Tuesday evening, as well as everyone else for their “support and extraordinary messages during this difficult time.”
Mahajan said out of respect for Woods’ privacy, the hospital would not provide more information about his care.
“On behalf of our staff, it has been an honor to provide orthopedic trauma care to one of the greatest athletes of our generation,” he said.
