Tigers vs Royals final score: Matthew Boyd was once again excellent

Head coach Matthew Boyd qualified for another solid outing and the Detroit Tigers' offense pulled enough points to keep the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Friday night.

The Tigers were allowed to work in this one. With Boyd on the mound, it was their game to win and they quickly took the lead. Boyd allowed a single in the first goal, but quickly crossed the Royals without difficulty, and his attack was reduced to an exchange in the lower half of the table.

Jorge Lopez led Jeimer Candelario to start the heat, while Nicholas Castellanos and Miguel Cabrera slammed some goals for Candelario to score. The consecutive series of Niko Goodrum and Ronny Rodriguez scored Castellanos and forced Cabrera and Goodrum. Gordon Beckham, who already had two innings, then managed a long shot on the left pitch wall, putting Rodriguez in third. Rodriguez scored with a misplacement after a tight play review, and the Tigers led 3-0.

Boyd did what you must do in this situation and quickly served the Royals. He allowed a single by Jorge Soler and then hit two batters before a Martin Maldonado's free kick finished the top of the second. The Tigers quickly fell in line, and Boyd led Billy Hamilton to the top of the third goal, which was not ideal. The Tigers gave him another race in the third. Lopez struggled with his fastball drive almost all night, and it cost him here. A walk to Castellanos and another Cabrera burned line single had runners on first and second. Niko Goodrum was withdrawn, but Ronny Rodriguez, very excited, unleashed a Lopez curve and hit a rocket on the left to score Castellanos and score him 4-0.

Boyd was doing his job, beating the batters with the fast four-sided ball and keeping his slider low, but he dug his own hole on the fourth and had to fight to get out of it. He made a fundamental mistake by hitting Alex Gordon at the top of the heat, and a rider on the right side of Hunter Dozier put the riders in first and third place with no outs. Boyd pushed Jorge Soler on a flare on the left, but Goodrum's shot at home was on the front line. Gutierrez's hit-par-pitch and slider were the only mistakes of the night, and Boyd paid for both. He recovered well and returned to the attack by hitting Chris Owings and Martin Maldonado to end the inning.

The Tigers' offense did not help in the next two rounds, but Boyd has no problem with the Royals. Exit strikes accumulated and contact was weak. In the sixth, he started to mix the curved ball with the batters already torn between his fastball-slider combo. He had eight hits, five hits and a walk. Ron Gardenhire sent him back to seventh on 94 pitches, and Boyd was in full control. A pair of weak flying bullets and the number nine barrage in the night were the expected result as the Tigers ace continues to let the league know he has arrived.

It was good that Boyd was able to get back to zero after the fourth inning, as the half-innings with the Tigers at the bat went quickly and without a positive result. Gardenhire had everything planned to turn to Joe Jimenez in the eighth, and the Tigers instructor was superb. Jimenez hit 98 km / h, finding an explosive fastball very well. He also showed some of his tightest sliders of the season. He quickly went over the Royals' top three strikers, eliminating two and putting Alex Gordon over a 91mph speed change into a brace for an easy scorer to end the run.

The Tigers loaded the bases at the bottom of the eighth row with singles by Miguel Cabrera, Ronny Rodriguez and a Gordon Beckham baffle fallen to the right. Unfortunately, Grayson Greiner was found in a double game ending the inning. And then, it was the hour of Shane Greene.

Greene had a rocky shot in this one. He came out first, but then hung a slider on Jorge Soler, who crushed him in the center-left for a 440-foot solo shot. After Greene recovered for the second goal, forward Ryan O'Hearn doubled for the right field. Fortunately, Martin Maldonado returned to Beckham on second base and Greene scored his 13th league goal of the American League.

Matt Boyd: After today's release, Boyd's EER is 3.05% over the year, with a spectacular FIP of 2.09%. His performance tonight allows him to become the leader of the major league FanGraphs WAR (fWAR).

Miguel Cabrera: We still lack power, but the big player has gone 3 to 4 on a series of hard hit drives.

Ronny Rodriguez: We are only talking about 41 appearances at the plate, but Rodriguez is burning the ball so far this season. He currently holds a prize of 169 wRC + and reduced by .324 / .366 / .676 with two home runs out of eight extra hits.
